I want to make an appointment to discuss my options for retirement. I called the Joliet office to set up an appointment and was told that I could not make an appointment unless I was filing for SS benefits. I do not know when I want to file unless I get all the necessary information but cannot obtain the information because I can't make an appointment.

This was the first time that I went to a Social Security Office and my first impression was not good. The Security Officer, who was on duty on January 9th was very unprofessional. My father just recently passed away so I accompanied my mother to bring her marriage certificate so that the proper documents can be processed. I was not familiar with the procedures of SS since I have never been to an office. i checked into the kiosk and then I saw the Security Officer and asked him if we had to wait or can someone copy the marriage certificate. He asked me whether I was special that I did not have to wait. What an inappropriate comment to make to someone? Maybe people like him should not interact with the public. I do not know this gentlemen nor do I know if he was joking around but it is not right considering the circumstances. Hopefully someone can speak to him about his manners. The other people in the office were very kind, patient and sympathetic.
