Web page needs more info. I wanted to know if I go to the office do I need an appointment or is it walk-in/first come, first service. If appointments can be made, how are they made? On-line or phone

Your system is horrible, I need to talk to the local office and there is no phone number. I have dialed the nationwide number and have to go through 30 minutes of BS just to be told that my wait time is another 60 minutes.

I am trying to find out whether I can go go any SS office in my area, or must it be in my county. My husband has died and I need to get forms to apply for that change. There is no menu that covers my question, and no phone number for local offices.

I could not get through as system kept telling me no agent was available and would hang up. This is very discoraging especially when I already have taken my borth certificate to the office in person and the system keeps telling me (on-line and over phone) that they still need this info.

I called the SS number I found on the internet. After waiting on hold over 30 minutes, someone answered. My question was what documents do I need to bring to get a replacement SS card for my MIL. I am her POA. I was told I could get a medical record from the nursing home. It must have her name, DOB and an original doctor's signature. No photocopies would be accepted. I took 1/2 day of vacation to get this. Took another 1/2 day of vacation to take it up to the West Chester SS office and they would not accept it. They claimed they would accept the same exact document on letterhead. So, I will take another 1/2 day of vacation to drive to the nursing home and get the information on letterhead and hopefully the New Castle, DE office will accept this new document. They should be more aware of the advice they give out at SS central. Government at work.
